Key areas of strategy, services, people, technology and systems are considered and compared against benchmarks in order to assess both current performance and to determine areas for future improvement.

A healthcheck is often done as part of a larger change programme which might involve process and people changes. The healthcheck then forms a useful baseline as part of IT strategy work in order to ensure the alignment of IT with business strategy. A healthcheck can also be carried out if specific problems are suspected, but which need to be considered in a more holistic fashion.
